I am delighted that the inaugural International Festival of Stone is planned to be held in Dundee in April 2027.
The International Festival of Stone will celebrate the creative potential of stone as a medium for artistic and cultural expression.
The festival will provide yet another platform where Dundee will open its arms to the world.
Joe FitzPatrick MSP (Dundee City West Constituency)

The International Festival of Stone was formally introduced at a reception held at the Scottish Parliament on the 18th February 2026. The event brought together representatives from across heritage, construction, and cultural sectors to discuss the role of indigenous stone in Scotland’s built environment.
The reception was hosted by Joe Fitzpatrick MSP (Dundee City West), whose support was instrumental in bringing the event to the Scottish Parliament. David F. Wilson, Founder of the International Festival of Stone and Director of Creative Possibilities, delivered the principal address, outlining the purpose and long-term vision of the festival.
Contributions were also made by Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Higher and Further Education; Doug Binnie IFS27 Festival Ambassador; Steve Webb of Webb Yates Engineers; Marcus Paine of Hutton Stone and President of Euroroc; and Dr David Mitchell representing Historic Environment Scotland. Together, the speakers reflected the breadth of the sector, spanning upcoming government policies, heritage, engineering, industry and craft practice and the wider significance of stone within Scotland’s built environment.

“Stone is not simply a material of the past. It is a living resource, culturally, environmentally and economically and it must be part of Scotland’s future.” – David F Wilson
